The Spanish Costas - the beauty of Spain

Spain’s diversity is immense and the country has something to offer even the most pernickety of people.
Spain as a whole is a mixture of different cultures, languages, climates and landscapes.
Although a mountainous country, there are many green valleys, fertile plains, virtual desert lands such as Andalucia and Almeria, as well as the ski resorts in the Sierra Nevada. Colourful fiestas, a diverse range of beautiful scenery, architecture, caves, modern cities and villages from ‘the land that time forgot’ are just some of the features that make Spain Europe’s most popular holiday destination.
The Spanish Costas – or coasts of Spain, are as varied as the rest of the country. Beginning on the Costa Brava, the Mediterranean stretches right through to the south where the Atlantic takes over on the Costa de la Luz up to the Portuguese border.
Climate also differs from Costa to Costa – in the north heavy rainfall is usual, and showers are accepted throughout the summer months, whereas south in Andalucia people die from the summer heat! In general the weather is pleasant throughout the months of September – April, but rising to 40 degrees in July and August. However, those that believe Spain is never cold should try living through the winter months when temperatures drops in the evenings!
Paella, Sangria, Tapas, Flamenco and bull fighting are all associated with Spain along with the sunshine and sandy beaches, but Spain is actually one of the cultural centres of Europe. Football is like a religion and the popular Valencian game of piloto is played either in the street by children or at organised venues throughout the region.
All areas of Spain have there own reglious festivals or ‘fiestas’, such as the Fallas de San José, in Valencia where they burn paper mache and cardboard statues said to be satirical political figures in the street, to the Feria de Verano with flamenco dancing and beautiful horses in Malaga. Wherever and whenever you go in Spain, you are bound to see some form of street partying, parades or fireworks. It’s what they do – life is for living, enjoy it
Wherever you choose to spend your holidays, or even your life, in Spain you will find beautiful beaches (many of which carry the EU blue flag), stunning scenery, and a great year round climate.
